About This Test
F18 DOPA (also called Fluorodopa F 18) is a radioactive tracer used in a PET scan. The main reason doctors use this injection is to help see dopaminergic nerve terminals in the striatum of the brain. Primary Use: F18 DOPA injection is indicated for adult patients who are being evaluated for suspected Parkinsonian syndromes.During the scan, a new IV catheter will be inserted into the patient vein, F18 DOPA will be injected intravenously, followed by a rest period of about 60 minutes for tracer uptake. The patient then undergoes PET-NCCT imaging, which usually takes 8 to 10 minutes (in digital PET scanner). No fasting and no eGFR require.
